TWC’s favorite reads of 2022

Good writing is timeless (or at least we’d like to think so). In that spirit, we’d like to share some of the best things members of the TWC community have read in 2022. It’s a fascinating mix of current and classic fiction and nonfiction, the latter covering topics as varied as the science of sleep, the Maine Warden Service and the unification of Italy.

 Our recommendations include:

All About Love, by bell hooks

“A moving, critical and reflective exploration of the universal experience we all crave.”

—Janina, proofreader and copy editor

Maya Deren: Choreographed for Camera, by Mark Alice Durant

“An intimate and revelatory look at an artist who changed cinema through a body of work of less than an hour total running time.”

—Rahne, writer and proofreader

Mending Life, by Sonya and Nina Montenegro

“A stunning art book that is also really practical. I’ve been patching up everything in sight as a meditative activity.”

—Roohi, writer

Mrs. Dalloway, by Virginia Woolf

“I read Mrs. Dalloway twice—quickly, then slowly. Virginia Woolf’s gaze is so empathic, so unwavering, and no one is left out. I felt like I was in the company of a mind that had a lot to teach me.”

—Clint, founding partner

“My God, Herschel Walker, What Have You Become?” by Jeremy Collins

“Forget about politics—this deeply human profile is a beautiful example of the best kind of magazine writing: ambitious, creative and a heck of a great read.”

—Taylor, managing editor and partner

We’ve collected the full list from our team here.

All of us at The Writing Company send you and yours our best wishes for happy, restful holidays. Thank you for being part of our community. If you’d like to share the best thing you read this year, we’d love to hear from you.
